Shanghai Pudong International Airport has two Terminals. Terminal 1 was opened on October 1, 1999, along with 800,000-square-meter apron area, 2 runways, 76 Aircraft positions, 28 boarding bridges and a cargo hub. It is shaped like waves, with 28 gates, 13 of which are double decker gates. The capacity of Terminal 1 is 20 million passengers. There are 24 check-in counters and thirteen luggage conveying belts.
Terminal 2 is located on the east of the Terminal 1. Opened on March 26, 2008, it covers an area of 480,000 square meters. The shape of Terminal 2 is like the Terminal 1, but a little larger than it. The capacity of Terminal 2 is 60 million passengers and 4.2 million tonnes of cargo annually. With the third runway, Terminal 2 is primarily used by Air China and other Star Alliance members.
There are shuttles between T1 and T2 running from 6:00-24:00. The shuttles depart every 10 minute and take about 5 minutes from one building to the other. They can be found at Domestic Departure Gate 1 and International Departure Gate 8 in T1 and Domestic Departure Gate 23 and International Departure Gate 27 in T2.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport serves both domestic and international flights. It is the main hub for China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines, and a major international hub for Air China. It also serves private airlines namely Juneyao Airlines and Spring Airlines. It is an Asian-Pacific cargo hub for UPS and DHL.
