Brief Itinerary

Day 1. Be met from airport. Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Visit a local garden to feel the old folk culture of local Shannxi, Visit a local garden to touch Xian local Opera culture. (Lunch)
Day 2. Terracotta Warriors Museum,Banpo Museum. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 3. Small Wild Goose Pagoda, Xian Museum, touch traditional performance art of Shadow Opera.
Stele Museum, Bell and Drum Tower Square, Shuyuanmen Street. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 4. Visit a local Flower and Bird Flea market to find the old style daily life of local people. Shannxi History Museum,, Ancient City Wall. A local museum focused on the changing of ancient City Wall. Visit Daxingshan Temple. Visit a traditional area of Xian. Take a walk to get an impression of daily life of local people. Find an old Xian style restaurant for dinner. Enjoy a kind of old Xian opera to touch the traditional art. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1. Arrival, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Folk Culture Garden, local garden to touch Xian local Opera culture.
Big Wild Goose PagodaBe met from Xian Xianyang International Airport.

Drive to visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a landmark of Xian city. It was first built in 652AD for the storage of Buddhist sutras and figurines. The pagoda is a well-preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. The present 7-storey Pagoda was built with layers of bricks without any cement in between.

Then visit a garden about local folk culture. This park displays the Shanxi local folk culture with the sculpture art, including the famous Shanxi eight strange folk customs: noodle is like belt, GuoKui is like pot, pepper is a dish, people wear handkerchiefs on their heads, etc.

Move on to visit a local garden to touch Xian local Opera culture. The garden displays the characteristics of Shanxi local opera, Qin Opera, with combining the art of sculpture and Shaanxi opera culture. Many group sculptures with opera cultural features can be see in the park. The corresponding drama recordings are broadcasted automatically and intermittently beside the sculptures.

Be transferred back to hotel.

Day 2. Terracotta Warriors Museum, Banpo Museum.

Drive to visit Terracotta Warriors and Horse Museum. Terracotta Warriors is the Eighth Wonder of the World, because of its historical significance and uniqueness. It is the a form of funerary art buried with Emperor Qin Shihuang, the first unifier of China dating back to 210 BC. More than 6,000 different looking pottery figures depict the history of the Qin Dynasty from 221 BC-206 BC. Every figure differs from those around in facial features and expression, clothing, hairstyle, and gestures. 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses are scatted in three excavated pits.

Then visit Banpo Museum. Banpo Museum is the first prehistoric museum in China. It houses artifacts from the archaeological site of Banpo, which was built by late Neolithic people. The museum depicts a matriarchal society based on farming and displays the culture and social life of the Neolithic Matriarchal community of Yangshao about 6000 years ago.

Day 3. Small Wild Goose Pagoda, Xian Museum, touch traditional performance art of Shadow Opera, Stele Museum, Bell and Drum Tower Square, Shuyuanmen Street.

Drive to visit Small Wild Goose Pagoda. Built between 707 and 709AD during the Tang Dynasty, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda was originally a multi-eave, square-brick 45m high structure with 15 storeys. But a big earthquake in 1556 reduced it to the present 43m high pagoda with 13 levels of tiers. The pagoda has a brick frame built around a hollow interior. There is a staircase inside the pagoda which enables guests to reach the top.

Then visit Xian Museum. Over 130,000 cultural objects shown in the exhibition area take the vivid record of Xi'an's splendid history.

Touch traditional performance art of Shadow Opera.

Stele MuseumMove on to visit Stele Museum. The Stele Forest is the largest stone stele library in China with 3000 steles in the museum. Most of the steles are from the Han Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty and the successive dynasties. Covering an area of 31,000 square meters, the building of museum a classical courtyard styled.

Visit Bell and Drum Tower Square. Bell and Drum Tower Square is the square between Bell Tower and Drum Tower. It is very beautiful when all lit up at night. Many local people gather here, dancing and singing. The Bell Tower in the east and Drum Tower in the west looks magnificent in the lights.

Then visit Shuyuanmen Street. Shuyuanmen Street is a pedestrian street from Stele Forest Museum to the gate of Guanzhong Academy. On both side are all antique building. There is a high archway(pailou) with ancient style at the entrance of the street.

Day 4. Local Flower and Bird Flea market, Shannxi History Museum, Ancient City Wall, Local museum, Daxingshan Temple, a traditional area of Xian, old Xian opera.

Drive to visit a local Flower and Bird Flea market to find the old style daily life of local people. The market is the most famous flower and bird market in Xian. The market is open on every Thursday and Sunday. It is the must-go place for bird-lovers in Xian.

Then visit Shannxi History Museum. Shannxi History Museum is the first huge state museum with modern facilities in China, featuring an architectural style of the Tang Dynasty. It is the best cultural heritage of Shaanxi Province and shows the systematic development process of Chinese civilization. The museum houses over 300,000 items including murals, paintings, pottery, coins, as well as bronze, gold, and silver objects.

Move on to Xian Ancient City Wall. With a history of 600 years, Xian City Wall is the oldest, largest and best preserved city wall of China. It was used to be an important military defensive system to fortify the city. The Ancient City Wall boasts the gates, tunnels and watch towers. The South Gate and North Gate are the two main entrances to the inner city.

Xian Ancient City WallVisit a local museum focused on the changing of ancient City Wall. The museum is loctated on the Hanguanmen section of the Xian City Wall. It is consists of three halls, East Hall, Middle Hall and West Hall. There is the site of Hanguanmen gateway of the Tang Dyansy in the East Hall. The city wall section in the West Hall comprehensively displays the historical evolution of Xi'an city walls.

Then visit Daxingshan Temple. Daxingshan Temple is a tranquil and small complex which houses the Xian Buddhist Association. First built in the third century, the temple was once the center of Buddhist art and learning during the Tang Dynasty, especially a venue to translate Buddhist sutras.

Visit a traditional area of Xian. Take a walk to get an impression of daily life of local people.

Find an old Xian style restaurant for dinner.

Enjoy a kind of old Xian opera to touch the traditional art. This opera appeared in West Zhou Dynasty(1046BC-771BC) and became popular in the Qin Dynasy(216BC-207BC). There are 13 kinds of characters. The songs are bold and touching, the music is colorful and elegant, and the performances are simple, rough, delicate, profound and full of exaggeration.
