Introduction of Olympic Park

Covering an area of 11.59 square kilometers, Beijing Olympic Park is located in Chaoyang District. It is consist of 3 areas: Olympic Forest Park in the north, with a area of 6.8 square kilometers, main competition venues and supporting facilities in the center, with a area of 3.15 square kilometers, and completed stadium area and reserved land in the south, with a area of 1.64 square kilometers.
The Beijing Olympic Park is an extension of the traditional central axis of the Beijing city. It embodies the three concepts of “science, technology, green and humanity”. The park presents a unique cultural landscape to the world's audience, including a dragon-shaped water system running through the north and south, a dazzling array of sculptures, a variety of well-designed floral patterns and landscape lampposts. The sunken garden combines the traditional elements of courtyard and city gate with modern architecture.
During the 2008 Olympic Games, more than half of the gold medals were won in the Beijing Olympic Park. After the game, the park became a comprehensive public activity center for sports events, exhibition centers, leisure and shopping.

National Stadium (Bird's Nest)
As the main stadium of the 2008 Olympic Games, the National Stadium, also called Bird's Nest, is located in the southern part of Beijing Olympic Park, on the east side of the central axis. It is one of the landmark buildings in the park. The mutual support of the individual structural elements converges into grid which looks like a bird's nest woven from branches.
The National Stadium was used to hold the Olympic Games, the opening and closing ceremony of the Paralympics Games, track and field events and the Soccer finals. The total area of the stadium is 21 hectares, and the building area is 258,000 square meters. There are about 91,000 audience seats including 11,000 temporary seats.

National Swimming Center (Water Cube)
National Swimming Center is another landmark building in the Beijing Olympic Park. It is located in the south of the park, on the west side of the central axis. As the main swimming pool of the 29th Olympic Games in 2008, the competitions of swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo were held here. It can accommodate 17,000 audiences at the same time. There are 6,000 permanent audience seats in the National Swimming Center.

National Indoor Stadium
National Indoor Stadium is one of the three major competition venues for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Its shape is like an open folding fan. Together with the Bird's Nest and Water Cube, they form a characteristic architectural complex. It located the south of Beijing Olympic Park, east to the central axis square, south to the Water Cube, west to and north to the National Convention Center. The stadium covers an area of 6.87 hectares and has a total construction area of 81,000 square meters. It is the largest indoor comprehensive gymnasium in China, which can accommodate up to 20,000 people. After the Olympics, National Indoor Stadium became a civic activity center with multi-functional services. Many international and domestic professional sports and events and commercial large-scale sports and cultural performances were held here.

Olympic Forest Park is an Eco forest. It is the green lung of the Capital Beijing. Those plant species and biomes suitable for natural climatic conditions in northern area form the local biomes in Beijing. They create and provide a habitat for lots of creatures especially the birds to maintain the ecological balance of nature and improve urban ecological carrying capacity. Tianjing
Tianjing is designed as the most suitable place to view the Bird's Nest and Water Cube. It is located on Yangshan Summit. On Tianjing, there is a 5.7 meters high, 63 tons landscape stone which was transported from Tai Mountain. Surrounded the main mountain of the Forest Park, there are 29 Chinese Pines which means the 29th Olympic Games. The two platforms Zhaohua and Xishi are on the east and west side of Tianjing. Standing on the platforms, you can have a bird's view of the main lake in the Forest Park and landscapes of the central Olympic Park.

Artificial Wetland
The most attractive landscape should be the artificial wetland in the park. Guided by the large areas of reeds, cattails, ball spike Sedge, Iris and cannas, you can find the wetland. Walking on the wetland along the bridge for about 500 meters, you can get to the underwater sank gallery.

Archery Range
The archery range in Olympic Forest Park is the only one with three sides of the stands in the world. Different with those square or round sites, the front of its north side is opened like rays while the back side turns narrow. That forms the V shape stands, which ensures the safety of the audiences and the attention of the athletes. The stands in the archery range are the steepest ones in the outdoor stadiums. The highest point of the stands is 1.4 meters where audience can see the whole process how the arrow left the bowstring and shot the target in a vertical sight.

Tennis Center
The whole item of the Tennis Center covers about 16.68 hectares. The construction area is 26,514 square meters. There are 10 competition venues. As the finals venue, the central venue can hold 10,000 people. No.1 competition venue can hold 4,000 people and No.2 competition can hold 2,000 people.
Besides, other scenic spots include 80 meters high Aohai Musical Fountain, Forest Art Center built in the Virgin Forest, Open Air Square, Forest Theatre, Art Center, and so on.
